He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:21
Pastor Ron first heard the call to the pastorate in 1977 while attending a Bible study taught by Pastor Greg Laurie (Harvest Christian Fellowship) at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in Southern California. That evening radically changed his direction in life -- from a self-determined course to be a professional golfer, toward a new life as a surrendered minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. However, Ron wouldn't fully understand that call until 15 years later.
Upon graduation from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1979 he moved to Casper, Wyoming, where he taught his first bible study to high school group sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. For the next 10 years, Ron served as a lay minister of the gospel to a variety of audiences including youth, adults, and incarcerated youth. During this time he ministered through Bible studies, one-on-one discipleship, worship & outreach concerts, eagerly pursuing any opportunity to share the love of Christ.
Ron was ordained as a Calvary Chapel pastor in 1992, and served as a youth and associate pastor at Calvary Chapel Eastside in Bellevue, Washington. In 1999, he served as an associate pastor at Calvary Fellowship, Seattle, under the ministry of Pastor Wayne Taylor. During these years as an associate, Pastor Ron gained extensive experience serving as youth pastor, worship leader, adult singles pastor, pastor of discipleship & evangelism, and director of the Calvary Chapel Bible College - Seattle Extension. In the spring of 2001, Pastor Ron heard the distinct call to start a new work in the city of Puyallup, and on October 14th, 2001, South Hill Calvary Chapel was born.
Ron and his wife, Jenny, live in Puyallup; their six adult children and eleven grandchildren live in Puyallup, Nashville, Salt Lake City and Seattle.
The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
Phil was born in Pasadena, CA, and spent his childhood and teenage years in a loving family in Grants Pass, OR. Phil was raised in the Catholic Church, and he first gave his life to Christ at a Youth for Christ convention in high school. During his studies of electrical engineering at Gonzaga University, Phil struggled with his faith and was lost and confused by his graduation. After college (1999), Phil's life was changed forever when he became a servant of his Savior, Jesus Christ. Just prior to that point, he had a wonderful girlfriend, great friends, and good education, but he was still missing the central purpose of life. Then, an old high school friend invited him to study Evidence That Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell. This started him on a deep study of God's Word. As a result, Phil repented of his sins, gave himself fully to Jesus, and began to be fed the Word at Calvary Chapel churches.
Following his complete surrender to the Lord, Phil earned his master's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, and he married that wonderful girlfriend, Heather, on July 1, 2000. They now have two daughters, Anna and Rose, and a son, Seth. The Spagnolo Family lives in Puyallup.
Phil has served in various roles at The Chapel Chapel since its inception. In July of 2008, he left his job with Boeing Research and Design to become a full time pastor. Phil currently serves as a Pastor/Elder and The Director of Church Operations.
The heart of the man plans his ways, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9
Steve was born in Tacoma, Washington and spent his childhood and parts of his adult life in the Tacoma area. He grew up in a Christian home with supportive and loving family all of his life. His family attended a small Pentecostal church in Tacoma. It was here he accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age but did not fully understand what that meant. He attended private christian schools and was a church kid all of his childhood and teen years. Despite his education and upbringing something was still missing.
During his teen years he and his family started coming to South Hill Calvary Chapel. Steve struggled with numerous sins in his life and his relationship with Jesus. It would not be until 2010, when Steve was 20, that he realized what it meant to be completely surrendered to Jesus and to life for Him. He then began to serve and get more involved at South Hill Calvary Chapel (the Chapel Church).During that time he was studying at South Puget Sound Community College to get his Associates in Welding. For years Steve aspired to have a career as a welder but in 2011 he decided to take time off from school. He continued to work as a metal fabricator and in warehouses at various companies for 10 years, while serving the church as a volunteer.
Steve met his wife Katrina in youth group at South Hill Calvary Chapel, but did not start courting one another until 2013. They were married in November of 2014 and currently live in Tacoma. Both of them still actively serve at The Chapel Church and Steve is currently a Pastoral Assistant.
